Develop have just put my interactive dialogue article online. This is obviously great news, but I thought it was a little funny in their summary piece, which seems to go out of its way to be controversial. While it’s likely to get more interest that way, I’m not a great fan of such controversy for the sake of it, particularly when, as in this case, it’s a little bit of a distortion of what the article is really about. Still, read the article – I’m sure you’ll find it interesting.
Good article Steve. I am about to start work on a corporate piece of interactive video work. I don’t want to use branching either. I’m planning on some sliders that mean the ‘player’ can change the mood of the scene.
Thanks, Tim.
The problem with branching is that it can lead you into thinking about closing off one branch entirely when the player/user chooses the other.
Your project sounds intriguing. Will each scene have to be shot multiple times to cover all the grades of the slider? Is it something the user chooses at the beginning or is it dynamic throughout?
A useful and interesting article, I’ve been wrestling recently with how to use variables!
Thanks. If your logic is controlled by Boolean variables it’s usually easier to track down logic bugs.
