PC problem, can anyone help?

June’s computer has a problem.  When it’s switched on a black screen appears with white writing with the following message:

“The last attempt to resume the system from its previous location failed.  Attempt to resume again?  (Use the arrow keys to highlight your choice.)”

It presents two choices but the problem is that the keyboard hasn’t initialised and so we can’t choose between them and use Enter to choose either, even the one that’s already highlighted.

We’ve tried re-starting numerous times but it does no good.  Can anyone offer a suggestion to what we can do?

Thanks in advance.

  1. Hmmm, I suppose you could try booting from CD and even trying out a new keyboard.

I don’t think there’s a problem with the keyboard, more likely the system hangs completely at the black screen.

Can you try entering the BIOS setup? It’s usually the DEL or F2 key. Above all, you should make sure that the hard disk is being correctly detected.

  3. Buy her a new computer!

I really don’t think the keyboard is being initialised. Nothing I do (Del, F2, etc.) has any effect so I can’t get to the bios.

    Thanks for the suggestions, though.

  6. Problem seems to be fixed. Fingers crossed that it’s permanent.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
