Leipzig 2008

Hooray, I’m going again. And posting again. 🙂

I’ll be at the game convention on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Last year was so insane with meetings and interviews that I felt I had no time to myself. This year, though, DTP have left me with Friday to myself so that I can see the show and hang round with cool people. If you’re a cool people and going to the show, let me know and perhaps we might arrange to casually bump into each other unexpectedly.

  1. Hey, so you have to be one of those secret “adventure legends” dtp promised for the press conference. Maybe I should apply for an interview again this year…

  2. Maybe that was meant to be “leg end”. 🙂

DTP has said nothing to me about anything being secret. I’m still not 100% sure what they want me to do. Mind you, I’ll jsut make it up on the spare of the moment like I did at last year’s press conference.

The number of interviews I gave last year, I thought I’d given one to every person with even a vague interest in adventures.

  3. In their invitation to the official press conference they promised “neue Projekte von bekannten Adventure-Entwickler-Legenden” (new projects from well-known adventure developer legends). So together with your blog post I thought there might be a possibility for a new Steve Ince project (which would be great). I’m looking forward to the conference…

BTW: Your performance last year was great 😉

  4. Thanks for the kind words. I hope that this year’s performance will be better. 🙂

I’m going to be there to talk about something new, which is always exciting. Obviously, I can’t mention it at the moment, but I wasn’t aware that my presence there was a big secret. Perhaps they’ll smiggle me in with a bag over my head. If they do I’ll leave it on during my presentation – “Who was that mysterious man in the bag…?”

  5. Or smuggle me in, even.

Mind you, smiggle is a cool word. Smiggle, smiggle smiggle.

  6. (to) smiggle – a flirty smile with a wiggle by a female intended to get a man’s attention. OR smiling and giggling at the same time (with or without a certain bag on your head).

Well I don’t know if I like to “force” you to another long interview but if you’re free on friday how about a little adventure gamers chat with some of your regular blog readers somewhere? 😉

  7. Smile and giggle sounds right for smiggle. 🙂

Drop me an e-mail and we can arrange an interview.

  8. Am I “cool people”? Not sure. 🙂 But I’ll be at Leipzig this year. Not at all sure of my schedule, but keep your eyes peeled for me as I would love to catch up!

  9. My thinking is that if I hang around with cool people I may be cool by association. 🙂

If you’re in the business hall, drop by the dtp stand on the Wednesday or Thursday as I’m sure to be around there somewhere. Unless I’m at the Momentum booth scrounging free drinks. 😀

  10. Ah, if only I was in the UK again – I could do to these things. You don’t happen to know of any big game conventions that happen in the southern hemisphere do you, Steve? (e.g. Australia or New Zealand)

  11. I’m sure I remember one being announced recently, but I can’t rmember where I saw the item.

  12. Could it be Armageddon, the pulp expo? It’s generally for TV and comics, but they may have some game developers there.

How do you go about making contacts at something like that? Find out whose their and arrange interviews?

Smiggle could also mean ‘smuggling whilst giggling’. Bound to get you caught.

  13. Armageddon doesn’t ring a bell. I think it was something specifically for games, but I could have just dreamt it.

It’s usually a good idea to arrange as many meetings and interviews ahead of time as people’s schedules can get pretty fully booked. It’s possible to just go up to booths and enquire about meeting people who are there or to chat after presentations, etc. Make sure you have plenty of business cards to give out.

What if you’re smiggling while smuggling muggles?

  14. The “Develop Conference and Expo” is running now in Brighton, maybe that’s your dream?

  15. Well, Brighton’s a long way from Australia… 🙂

  16. Maybe that one here?

    Regards,
    Anonymous 1-3 😉

  17. It could have been that, but it seems to be mainly non-video games.

  18. Hey well thanks for having a think for me anyway. If the event it does come to mind, would you be able to e-mail it to me, Steve?

You could get yourself into a smuddled smangle if you were sumg enough to smiggle whilst smuggling muggles!

  19. Cool. I am not in charge of my own agenda for this year (mumble mumble new editor-in-chief mumble mumble) but I’ll try to come by the dtp stand and see if you still have an empty bit in your schedule that coincides with one in mine. Always keen to hear about new stuff from you.

  20. You don’t already have any meetings at DTP’s booth do you? They’ve set up a number of meetings for me but been very secretive about it with journalists.

If not, I’m sure we can find a slot in there somewhere as I still have a number of them free.
