I’m reading Untold Stories at the moment – a book of collected writings by Alan Bennett.\u00a0 I’m in the section in which sections of his diaries have been printed.\u00a0 It occurred to me as I was reading them that the tone is a little peculiar.\u00a0 They read as if they were addressed to a reader other than himself and he must have had a strong idea when writing them that they’d see publication one day.<\/p>\n
Another thing that struck me was the way that because of the tone of the writing, they’d be perfectly at home on a blog of some kind.\u00a0 I know that blogs are like diaries in many ways, but Bennett’s diaries seem like blogs.\u00a0 It’s probably just the fact that I’m reading them with the benefit of a little hindsight, but they just come over in that way to me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
