{"id":569,"date":"2010-02-06T17:22:35","date_gmt":"2010-02-06T17:22:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.steve-ince.co.uk\/blog\/?page_id=569"},"modified":"2024-11-04T15:00:35","modified_gmt":"2024-11-04T15:00:35","slug":"about-the-blog","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.steve-ince.co.uk\/blog\/about-the-blog\/","title":{"rendered":"About Steve Ince"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"735\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.steve-ince.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Dad-Paul-Steve-s.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2005\" style=\"width:313px;height:425px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.steve-ince.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Dad-Paul-Steve-s.png 735w, https:\/\/www.steve-ince.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Dad-Paul-Steve-s-221x300.png 221w, https:\/\/www.steve-ince.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Dad-Paul-Steve-s-110x150.png 110w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 735px) 100vw, 735px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Born and raised in Hull, Steve studied Astronomy and Astrophysics at Newcastle University before taking on jobs as varied as bingo hall management and metal refinery worker.&nbsp; At the age of thirty five he joined the games industry as an artist and has developed this creative career ever since, now working as a freelance writer and artist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Steve gained a nomination for Excellence in Writing at the Game Developers Choice Awards in 2004 for <em>Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon<\/em> and received a second nomination in 2008 from the Writers\u2019 Guild of Great Britain for his writing on <em>So Blonde<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Steve\u2019s book, <em>Writing for Video Games<\/em>, was published by A&amp;C Black and has sold throughout the world, sometimes used as a text in game writing courses.&nbsp; This has recently been followed by the books, <em>An Introduction to Game Writing <\/em>and <em>201 Things for Better Game Writing <\/em>with <em>Collected Game Writing Articles<\/em> making a fourth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Regularly invited to speak at conferences around the world, Steve enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"788\" src=\"http:\/\/www.steve-ince.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Steve-Ince-at-St-Benedicts-July-2018-2s.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1909\" style=\"width:421px;height:331px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.steve-ince.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Steve-Ince-at-St-Benedicts-July-2018-2s.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.steve-ince.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Steve-Ince-at-St-Benedicts-July-2018-2s-300x236.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.steve-ince.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Steve-Ince-at-St-Benedicts-July-2018-2s-150x118.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.steve-ince.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Steve-Ince-at-St-Benedicts-July-2018-2s-768x605.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Steve has also written and drawn a number of online comic strips involving adults, children and a variety of cute animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">His short film, <em>Payment<\/em>, was released a few years ago to critical acclaim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">He has written a number of fiction books in different styles, including an urban fantasy novel, two children\u2019s titles that he also illustrated and a graphic novel.&nbsp; He undertakes illustration work for other writers, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">He has been working on a climate change app aimed at young children but is now concentrating his creativity on further books, both writing and illustrating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Steve lives with his partner, June, in the quiet wilds of East Yorkshire.
