On the mend

My father is already at home and is well on the road to recovery already, which is a great relief and we're all thankful it didn't turn out to be more serious.

Opposites

I find the workings of the universe very difficult to understand, even at the best of times, but yesterday pushed this to the limit. After being contacted by a publisher who wanted to talk about Juniper Crescent - The Sapphire Claw, something which is highly desirable, I got news early yesterday evening that my father had been rushed into hospital after collapsing in the garden.

For some strange reason, at the age of 69 he seemed to think that it would be okay to lay paving slabs in the baking heat. Once they carted him off to hospital they found that he needed an operation to have a pacemaker inserted, which he's having this afternoon. When I spoke to hime this morning he seemed in good spirits, so after an initial scare he should be rapidly on the mend. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I shall return my attention to the publisher later in the week when I know that the more important issues have been passed and my dad's on the road to recovery again.

Are games bad for you?

This article over at Eurogamer reports on a study by Klaus Mathiak who concluded that "therefore games train our brains not to distinguish between what's real and what's pretend." However, to me, all he has proved, at best, is that this conclusion can be drawn from gamers playing FPS games. It seems like he's got an awful long way to go before he can prove that games in general are bad for you.

Back in the swing...

...well, kind of.

I arrived back from my holiday late on Friday evening and am only just getting back into the swing of things again.

Italy was fabulous, the weather was beautiful and we had a great time.

I arrived home to find that there was a letter asking me to make an appointment for a renal examination, which is slightly worrying. I'll see how that pans out in a couple of weeks.

Interest in The Sapphire Claw continues, but I can say nothing more than that at this stage.

I hope to announce a big competition later this week.

Stay tuned!

Comics don't need no reinventing!

Penny Arcade on Reinventing Comics by Scott McCloud.

I thought Understanding Comics was brilliant, but Reinventing Comics was dreadful. I'm glad I'm not the only one. :)
