Portrait of Caroline

The last couple of days I’ve been working on a number of things connected with Caroline’s Secret, my personal project.  One of these was the story, which has been troubling me for a little while and now I’m much happier with.  The other is the portrait of Caroline, above.  This is an early version and it may change yet, but…

The blog is back

If any of you tried to come here over the last couple of weeks you’ll have noticed the blog was down.  This was due to a problem with the database which even changing server didn’t fix.  The tech guys at my hosting provider eventually tracked it down to some weirdness with the username. So, it’s back and a couple of things have…

I’m on Wikipedia

There’s actually been an entry about me on the German language version for a while, but now there’s an English language entry, too.  This one is much more comprehensive than the German one appears to be and that’s all due to Willem van der Velden and his sterling efforts to gather all the relevant information.  Many thanks.

A new biography

Willem van der Velden created an online biography of me and my career. What a nice thing to do. It’s also quite useful to have an online reference like this.  🙂

Agency representation

I now have an agent. It took a little while to finalise the contract details, but earlier today I signed the contract and am now represented by the SMART Talent agency.  From now on they will be negotiating my million dollar deals.  🙂  To contact them, please do so through the e-mail address, jd@smart-talent-group.co.uk If people ever ask me how…

Guest Post on Adventure-Treff

I was asked to write a guest column for the German adventure gaming site, Adventure-Treff.  As this is a new feature on the site and I’m the first to write a piece, it’s quite an honour and I hope my short article is a suitable way to begin the series. The link takes you to the original English version, but…

Mr. Smoozles, the 400th strip!

I posted the 400th Mr. Smoozles comic strip over at the website.  I’m pleased to have reached this milestone and look forward to the next 100 strips.  I hope you enjoy reading them.  🙂

Scene from an unwritten film

INT. COMMISSIONER’S OFFICE – NIGHT Batman enters through the open window and stalks across the plush carpet. BATMAN I came as soon as I could, Commissioner.  You said it was urgent. We follow Batman’s movement and he stops near a hefty looking Commissioner who has his back to us and Batman.  He’s staring at a TV, but we can’t yet…

London Screenwriters’ Festival

Having never been to a dedicated screenwriting festival before, attending the LSWF was a pleasure in itself, particularly being in the presence of so many talented and friendly people.  Because I’d been invited to speak as part of a panel on game writing, I felt doubly pleased to be there as I was able to impart some of my knowledge…

On Projects and Progress…

I’ve been so focussed on my various projects that I’ve been neglecting my blog somewhat, so this is an attempt to rectify that to a degree. It’s been just over a month since I announced Star Sweet and Honey Heart and considering the relatively short time-span it seems to be going well with awareness growing steadily. Not only is there…

William Nicholson – Serious Screenwriting

Last night at BAFTA, William Nicholson gave a talk.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t there, but there is a summary of tweets about it here. Although it sounds like an excellent and useful talk in its own right, almost all of the tweet comments can be applied to gamewriting.  So, “if you possibly can, be a writer/director, that way you retain the…
